In August 2016 I purchased my first ATV a 570 Polaris Sportsman with the intention of using it for work around the house and Plowing in the winter (Ohio Resident). I am no master mechanic, But I have build several high performance Jeeps and Trans Ams. I am big into the LSX engines. I just wanted to post this up for anyone who was experiencing the same issues and looking for possible resolutions.
My 2016 Polaris 570 is (was) having a couple issues. I will address them one at a time. The issues are:
1. Hard starting both hot and cold starts.
2. Stalling at idle when i give it gas.
Th first issue i wanted to address was the hard starting:
Initially I wanted to blame it on a loose bolt in the charging system (I have recently installed a Super Winch Terra 35). After re tightening all the bolts everything seemed fine. Still had hard starting issue.
Next i checked the air filter looked new as the day as I bought it. Moving on I checked the sparked plug looked a little wet possibly fouled. So after some research I chose to go to an iridium spark plug (NGK PN# CR8EIX). Installed the plug no difference in the hard starting issue.
At this point I’m kinda scratching my head. I had ruled out fuel due to it being brand new (mistake). But knowing that like a lot of things it can be bad out of the pump I put some stabilizer in it. Let it sit for about ten min, ran it for about 10 min. let it cool down and it started right up.
So, after a little research through the forum I have decided an ethanol free gas is for me. Overall I feel like it will provide better performance as well as longevity.
My Second issue was the stalling as soon as i give it gas at idle:
This issue was sporadic at best usually happening after it had idled for more than a couple minutes or leaving on an incline. I consulted both the forums and the owners manuel. Again after much research I decided it was likely related to the throttle contactor. I immediately noticed my thumb throttle had probably 1in or more of play prior to engaging the throttle. Big red flag off the rip. Polaris suggest 1/16in-1/8 in play in the throttle cable. Adjusted the throttle cable and seems like my stalling at idle issues are gone. While not confirmed fully I was able to ride for about an hour today with no issues.
If anyone needs any advice with the Super Winch Terra 35 LMK i would be more than happy to provide ya with the information.
