Please help!
I have recently been facing some odd new issues with my 2013 RZR 800 trail. It has about 120 hours and 1000 miles.
The weekend before last when riding, my RZR was running hotter than usual (avg 210-220). I had to get towed back to camp once when the temperatures got up to 225 degrees and rising. The fan was blowing non stop and not effectively cooling. During all this, sometimes when I tried to start my RZR after taking a break, it would turn over and not crank. I would have to pull the key out and reinsert and then RZR would start. Finally after cleaning the radiator out numerous times I got the engine temperature back down to normal (190-205 with fan kicking on and bringing temperature back down to 190’s) – Once temperatures were down the starting issue went away and RZR ran great for the next day.
After the weekend I detailed the rzr for a couple of hours. After detailing it when I started it to put RZR away, the engine sounded like it was loping when I started it – engine revving high then low then high then low and started to rev constant at about 1/4 throttle and check engine light came on. I turned the RZR off let it sit for a minute and then re-started it and it ran like normal.
Most recently after putting rzr in garage after cleaning (above), driving the RZR about a half mile down a paved street in the rain, the engine started to surge (about 4 times) when going approx. 20 mph and the check engine light flicked on then back off. When I toggled through the cluster displays a new display came up "CHK ENGINE". So I turned the RZR off and back on and the "CHK ENGINE" text was no longer in the cluster. I took it around the neighborhood a second time and had the same issue (no surging but check engine light flickered and then cluster showed "CHK ENGINE").
I know this is a lot of information and some may not be relevant. I was curious how you would recommend diagnosing this issue – How do I see the "CHK ENGINE" code number to reference?
Do you recommend changing the battery (voltage was approx. 12.3v)? Could this be a TPS issue at the accelerator pedal and/or at the motor adjustment point? Do you think the ECM could be at fault?
Thanks in advance for any and all help and please ask any questions.
