So last winter I bought a 2006 Bombardier 400 Max Xt with 136 km. It still had all the nubs on the factory tires and not a scratch on it or under it. I have now run it up to 860 kilometers and I am a little concerned with how hot it runs. I mostly use it for hunting so it often runs about 4 kilometers an hour. I often hunt upland game birds on very hot days. My old ride was a 93 Honda 300 4X4 and it seemed to deal with the heat much better than my new bombardier.
My observations follow:
The exhaust feels hot through the fairings on the right side. It makes my leg extremely HOT.
The fan runs pretty regularly when I ride slow which is most of the time.
The gas in the lines and tank boil when its hot out. Pressurized vapour leaks through the fuel cap vent.
The engine clatters when hot and the oil thins out. It sounds like valve clatter or wrist pin.
What advice and or modifications do you recommend?
I am thinking a modification to the radiator fan to keep the fan running whenever the ignition is on.
I have been running zero ethanol fuel which helps prevent boiling.
I am thinking about wrapping the exhaust with header tape.
