According to the previous owner, it has been sitting for at least a year but had the rings done 500km ago. It got put away wet so I’ve spent a few days cleaning it up and got around to starting it today.
Before starting:
– changed the oil and filter
– installed new battery
– took carb apart and gave it a good cleaning
– drained/cleaned the gas tank and fuel filter inside the tank (the filter was pretty plugged up)
– cleaned air filter (and a nest from the airbox)
When I got everything back together, it fired right up and idled strong. However, I noticed right away that gas was literally pouring out of the overflow tube from the carb. The needle and seat were pretty bad so I suspect an issue there that I will need to re-address, and the float may need to be adjusted.
At the same time, white smoke began pouring from the cylinder from under the gas tank (not out the exhaust), almost like it was steaming but smelled foul. Not sure if it smelled like burning fuel or burning oil. Could the carb issue be realted to the smoke (too rich, washing out the cylinder or something), or do I have other problems? If so, what might be the culprit?
Looking for some direction!
Thanks
