2005 Foreman – have spark, will travel

I have spent the last few months trying to diagnose a no spark problem. I followed the trouble shooting chart in Service Manual plus all the suggestions from this forum. I replaced the battery (which was 10 years old anyway), voltage reg/rec, spark plug, coil, ECM, checked wiring and connections. The CKP sensor put out less than minimum voltage but I thought it should be enough. Anyway, I had the stator/CKP replaced, and it fired right up. On the bench the stator resistance was about .3-.4 ohms among the three pairs of wires, which must okay since I never had charging problems. I took apart the CKP and from what I saw I am guessing the sensor overheated and the insulation was damaged on the windings and shorted out. So now I have a bag of spares, but at least we are running.
