My buddy and I were heading into our favourite fishing lake on our quads, I had him riding my 1999 polaris sportman 500…
He has little experience with quads, he was riding behind me when he said it suddenly stalled, then about 10 seconds later one of the rad hoses (the little one near the bottom of the motor, about 3 inches long) exploded! By the time I got to him, I could tell the bike was HOT! so I looked at the fan, where the wiring connect to the fan, that connector was pretty badly melted, anyways I went to try and start it to see what would happen, and the start button (its the style where you push up on the killswitch) was seized solid and very, very hot.
of course I know these issues need to be fixed but what caused all this?
anyways once the bike cooled down I was able to do a trailside repair to the hose, fill up the rad and get her going by taking power straight to the starter with jumper cables and ride her back to the truck.. My buddy and I doubled the rest of the way into the lake joking about how good the fishing would need to be to make up for all the hassle… well 24 beauty rainbows in 6 hours did the trick!
any advice would be greatly appreciated!
