1998 300 Fourtrax – Stalled and will not start

Hey Everyone, really hoping I can get some advice on how to get my 1998 300 Fourtrax back up and running! Here is the situation..

I started up a steep hill and decided about halfway up that I shouldn’t be attempting this (probably a rookie move on my part). So I put it in reverse and started backing down, at which point my ATV stalled. I coasted down the last few feet and then tried to start it back up, but had no luck. I have been using the kick start, as the battery has been dead since I brought it out of storage. When trying to kick start I can smell gas, so I thought it must be flooded? I waited 15 minutes and tried again, no luck. I then waited about 30 minutes and tried again, it started up but then died instantly (with 1 to 2 seconds). I am thinking this must be something simple, but I have very little experience with this sort of thing. Hoping someone can give me a couple pointers as to where I should go from here!

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have for me!
Cheers,
Maritimer
