1988/89 Honda Foreman 4×4 – Front Brake Rebuild

Hey new to the forums, working on rebuilding the front brakes on my 1988/89 Honda Foreman. Everyone please don’t be like me. Regularly maintain your brakes/drums because what I found after 15 years of neglect is sad.

That said, I’m looking for a little direction in regard to:

1.Dust seals/o-rings found in both the knuckle and the brake assembly.
Q: Should I replace all the o-rings/dust covers/seals to prevent water entering or will water continue to enter anyways?
Q: If I should, can anyone point me towards a kit instead of trying to read the diagrams and order the parts individually like I am now?

2.Front brake cylinders
Q: These dudes are completely corroded. What can I use to begin cleaning/dissolving the corrosion that won’t damage them further?
Q: Rebuild kit for the cylinders will work once I have properly cleaned them?

3.Brake drum
Q: These guys are super rusted/corroded. What is the correct way to clean up the drum so the pads will make good contact when I reinstall everything?

4.Future maintenance
Q: In the future what simple things should I be aware of or do to keep the front brakes in good shape….other than pull them completely apart? To specify what I mean, is there a method for draining these brakes if water enters, or checking for water, short of removing the wheels?

5. Pipe dreams…
Q: There isn’t a front disc brake conversion kit that fits this atv is there?

Thank you in advance. I look forward to being apart of the conversations here and hopefully I won’t be too lazy and I’ll get together a write-up with pictures for everyone on how to do the brakes.
