Purchased 4 years ago from some kid who put a snorkel and after market exhaust on it.
Worked fine until this year.
Used primarily at low speed and RPM towing but sometimes I take it for a leisure ride and hit the upper gears.
Behavior:
Bike sputters out and dies in forward gear as soon as I give it gas but idles okay. This does not occur in reverse or when I rev in neutral.
If I gun it, it’ll sputter and backfire but keeps going.
With the rear end propped up so the back wheels spin freely, the problem does not occur. Seems to need a work load to trigger the effect. Applying brakes do not provide enough workload to cause trouble.
No indicators lit on the instrument cluster.
What I’ve tried:
Air filter clean
Plug clean
In-gear start safety switch fully disengaged and seems to be working correctly.
Fresh gas.
Oil clean and at correct level.
I changed the plug and it ran great for 30 seconds before exhibiting the same behavior but not as severe. It seems a well used plug exacerbates the problem. This leads me to believe there is a problem with the ignition system caused by a malfunction of one of the safety features that become enabled when in a forward gear.
