Hey All, A couple of things going on with my Sportsman. 07 Sportsman 500 HO X2. Both are quite intermittent and have no rhyme or reason to them. I live a good ways from a decent shop so I want to figure this out on my own. Just a matter of time before it strands me and that won’t be good. My wife and I have some ATV adventures coming up, so it’s time to get ‘er fixed.

1) Once in a while, the machine can’t seem to get of its own way. Exhaust smells like it’s burning rich and sometimes it backfires. I usually just stop, shut it off, fire it back up and it’s back to normal. Sometimes it behaves all day long. Other times, not so much.

2) Sometimes the machine just shuts down. Like the key was turned off. nothing on the display, no warning, just quits. Usually after giving it a few minutes (5 – 10), it’ll fire back up and I’m on the way. It hadn’t done it for a couple of months until out of the blue yesterday it did it again.

Been wearing out this forum and the internet trying to chase these / this gremlin down. Today I learned about retrieving the codes and got a 22, TPS open or shorted to ground. That was the only code in memory. Some of what I read here today also points to a faulty PDM. Got too late for me to spend more time on it and will have to dig deeper on the machine tomorrow.
