Hey guys – first time poster here looking for some advice on an ’02 Rancher TRX350TEY that I picked up a little while ago. While I’m new to small engine work, I’ve got extensive experience in automotive repairs so I apologize in advance for being ATV illiterate. That said I have done my best to do some basic research on these things!
So on to my issue. When I bought it, the guy said he got it from someone on a trade and thought it needed a carb. It was spitting fuel into the air box under heavy throttle and had very poor engine performance (couldn’t even get up the ramps to the truck on it’s own power). I got it home and tried some basic things – new gas, new spark plug, rebuilt the carb, checked the choke valve, tried a brand new carb, and swapped the CDI from another project Rancher that I already have running. I haven’t touched anything on the engine yet but my only other thought is that it may be a timing issue. Any other ideas or would that be the next logical thing to check?
Here’s a video of what it’s doing (note – I have another choke cable hooked up to the carb so ignore the dangling one ;)):
