Turbo Squeel/Video

Greetings Fellows —

Have a listen to this short video — And give me your best evaluation.

Engine’s cold — Turned off the fans and intercooler pump so they don’t interfere.

53 Series — Has appx. 1800 miles on this engine and a total of 5000 miles on the Turbo — I know the Turbo is undersized but has performed well to this point.

Turbo oil is at the fill plug.

75 miles back the squeal started. Today’s outing it is squealing a bit louder (Understatement !!).

I run a temp gauge on the charged air intake — Taken from the factory TMAP on the pass. side T/B and the temps today are 40 degrees hotter than I normally run. Started to increase temp when I noticed the squeal.

I’m assuming I’m loosing a bearing — As the Turbo comes to a stop much quicker than it used to when I shut off the engine.

Still delivers Boost (16 PSI).

I’ve had a few backfires (Well — Maybe more than a few !!)– Would the hard shock wave of an exhaust backfire cause damage to the turbine wheel or the variable vanes — Thus causing this squeal ??

That’s it in a nutshell — What do ya think and what are my options ??
