Rincon Rattle at idle.

First, let me say i’m not used to these Honda motors. I’ve only ever been in Kawi v-twin motors.

I’m working on my buddies 2007 680 Rincon. When it’s idling it will rattle every couple seconds. I’ve read about cam chain issues and I saw something about a decompression release issue. So I decided to tear into the motor and look around. Before I tore it apart the sound seemed to be coming from the cam area.

When I tore it apart I found a few things I’m not sure of. I’ve included pictures: The first picture (the one with my finger) should that piece be loose? When i touch it, it wiggles around and moves back and forth. The second picture is of the underside of the head where the cam sprocket is. I’m fairly certain those aren’t just casting marks. The tensioner appears to be working as the chain is fairly tight. I can wiggle the chain side to side on the sprocket but I can’t pick it up any.

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance for the help!
