Official dune helmet thread

Hello fellow duners!

I thought this would be an informative thread for those who are in the market for helmets to use in the dunes now that it’s a requirement in California.

Initially, I was an opponent of the new law, and somewhat still am. While wearing helmets is a smart move, personally I’d rather not be told that I have to. On bikes and quads helmets are a no brainer, but in a roll cage equiped vehicle it would be nice to have a choice!

Heres what I have experienced since I began wearing helmets in the dunes—–

For the last two seasons I have been wearing my carbon fiber full face Simpson Devil Ray race helmet with communications, and fresh air pumper. Paint by CR Designs, comms by PCI Race Radios.

Pros –
– Installed speakers and mic for comms and music
– With a helmet skirt, and pumper on I havent had sand in my face, ears, or eyes once
– Lightweight
– Full face protection makes it very safe
– Warm on cold nights

Cons –
– Limits visibility slightly
– Hot on hot days
– Hard to wear sun glasses (harder to store sunglasses while riding without damaging them)
– Difficult to communicate with friends while pulled over or stopped
– Rashes cheeks and ears due to the amount of times you take helmet on and off

These cons are enough for me to try another helmet for this season. Looking at open face helmets w/ comms, looking at half shell helmets for those quick rides from camp to camp, also looking at motocross helmets.

Please post photos or links to what helmets you use, and share what you do, or do not like about them! :rzrflag:
