Mud Runs and Paddle Tires

Howdy fellas, so I participated in my first Mud Run event today and took a whoopin. Here’s what I’m running: 2013 outlander 1000xt. Mods: 2" shock spacers, 29.5×9.5×14 outlaw 2’s, full primary and secondary clutches machined for outlaws, muzzy slip on with PCV tuner and a snorkel.

I came into the event expecting there to be at least 12 inches of mud but it turns out there was maybe 2 inches at best with hardpack underneath. The outlaws had zero traction and I lost by 3 lengths minimum to everyone. They all had mellow tires like swamp lites and bighorns. Sad huh?

So now I’m on a mission to figure out the best setup for tires. i had the idea of running paddle tires on all 4 corners to give me the best possible forward push. They would be small and light. All the high powered mud running trucks run paddles and have insane traction.

Or

Do I just run my bighorns that I plan to use for trail riding? They will be 28x10x14.

I got whooped so bad today that I need to figure something out. Thanks in advance for any advice you have!
