The voltage regulator runs very hot under normal conditions.
Usually to hot to hold your fingers on for more than a couple of seconds.

To much heat will kill any electronic device in short order.
Getting more air flow will help but transferring that heat through
more heat sink or metal mounting bracket will help the most.
I left the VR in its original location and added an aluminum heat sink under it.
Added lots of heat sink compound between VR and heat sink.
This setup allows it to run about 10 degrees cooler.
I may mount the VR and heat sink on the chassis frame somewhere, that would dissipate even more heat away from the VR.
