Hello from Nova Scotia.

Hey folks,

I’ve been trolling the forum for a while doing some research and reading up on the experiences each of you share.

So first off, I’m 30yrs old and live in Sydney, Nova Scotia. I am a career firefighter and have always enjoyed the outdoors.

I put the deposit down this morning to have an 800 Max XT in Brushed aluminum ordered in for me. The only accessories I am putting on the bike right now is the heated hand/thumb warmers and a cargobox for behind the rear seat.

The dealer said there is a small chance I could have the bike by Saturday before they close at noon. However they said a more realistic time of arrival and in my posession would be Tuesday (I work Monday dayshift).

I have driven a few atvs but never owned one before so this is a great experience for me. I’ll be hauling the bike around for the most part in my reg cab short box 12′ sierra. Little tight on length I know but after the purchase I’m maxed on case and a set of ramps looks like the most logical purchase right now.

In my previous times on atvs or dirt bikes I have always already been out and about of just threw on whatever I had and avoided water/mud of possible. That won’t be the case this time around LOL. I’m buying this thing to play and have fun while enjoying the outdoors.

Because it seems like there is always water/puddles/mud on the trails around here even during warm weather I will welcome any advice on recomended apparel to help get me started.

I’m buying a helmet when the bike comes in and I’d like to have only one…something that can be used in the summer as well as during the winter. I have a few good pairs of mechanix gloves with some padding that I’ll also be wearing along with a decent pair of work boots or rain boots I have.

If I go out with just work boots and a sweater or light jacket should I have some rain pants/jacket/boots stored in the cargo box for in the event of coming across any water or mud? Or would I be best to ride with them already on and just some thin or light clothes under?

This part is all new to me as in the past it wasn’t something I worried about. I don’t want to buy anything I don’t need or something that can wait a few months.

Well this is a lot longer than I wanted :/ but if anyone can just drop a suggestion of two while I’m getting familiar with the site it would be appreciated.

Thanks and have a good day,
Mark
