I have came to your form to seek advice on the pickle I got myself in.
My 2008 Honda Foreman 4×4 still had the stock tires and they were in need of definite replacement, certainly in the front!
So set of 4 new tires it is! Off to find a deal! So of course first stop was over to the great guys at mud-throwers.com. They always have been great to me over the years on my other rides.
I debated if I wanted to go with the Interco Swamp Lites which I have had nothing but good things to say about on my Recon or if I wanted to try the Maxxis Zilla’s which I also heard great reviews on. After some debate I decided to be adventurous and go with the Zila’s. Mud throwers price was 330 bucks. Plus 10 bucks each tire to mount em on the stock rims so $370 job done!
Done deal right….Not quite….
In my ever infinite wisdom I decided to get on eBay to search of any deals! I am always a wheeler dealer!
And what did I find! A great deal of course! There was a Honda Dealer (Honda of Russellville) that had pulled of a brand new stock set of wheels and tires off a 2015 Honda Rincon. Asking 450 for them free ship!
I said hmmm for a little bit more I could upgrade my rims (it would look sweet) and be able to just mount the wheels right up to the atv (no going to the tire store)
Sell the stock rims and be at the same price as just tires from mud throwers.
Now to see if they will fit?… same tire size?…yep no issues there…same bolt pattern?…Yep good to go! Same Zilla tire I wanted? yep! Bought them right there!
They came within a couple days and looked great and couldn’t of been happier. Time to mount them up! This is when I realized the error in my calculations. Due to the new Rincon having independent rear suspension (about time honda!) and disc brakes in the rear the mounting depth of the rim was different! The Foreman’s is a lot more recessed than the Rincons. Therefore when they mounted up on the rear the tires were sucked in about 2 more inches than they should be. NOT GOING TO WORK
ADVICE NEEDED HERE
I now have two options the way I see it.
Option 1
I can take both sets of tires into the tire shop and have the new tires put on the stocks rims and sell the new 2015 Rincon rims…
Option 2
I can purchase some wheel spacers for the rear and that should make everything fit as it should right? I am thinking I need 2 inch ones.

i know, i know another tire thread but i just want everyones opinons on what they think will work the best for me. I narrowed it down to the Maxxis bighorns, Tusk Trilobites and Kenda Executioners. i do a good amount of pavement riding while towing a 5×10 trailer so need something thats going to hold up good. I do snow plowing also and some trail riding and some mud here and their.
What do you all think would do the best for me? I want to try and not spend alot also. Thanks!!
My son bought a set of 2015 foreman special edition wheels. I understand the 2015 has independent rear suspension and the 2008 does not. Is there anyway to make theses wheels work on a 2008.
Hello,
I have a 1990 Honda Fourtrax TRX300, 2 wheel drive.
Original front tires need replacing. What is recommended for tread pattern for front tires on 2 wheel drive? Didn’t know if aggressive tread like bear claw would have a negative effect for steering. Also looking at Kenda Front Max.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I have had my vampire edls in a a lot of different stuff.
MUD: They get a lot of traction I pretty much never spin and haven’t had to put it in four wheel yet.
RUTS: They don’t have very much side lug but they go pretty well throw them for not having much.
TRAIL: I do a lot of trail riding and the vamps don’t feel much different then stock I think they are smoother. They only get a little squarely 40+ but its not that bad.
ROCKS: they are not the best but not horrible. Because of how skinny they are.
WEAR: this weekend was my first ride put 77miles on and I mostly did trail and alitte deep mud, ruts, and about a mile of black top. I could still see the bottom of the nipples on the front tires and the nipples on the back where gone. I think they should wear very well as long as I don’t ride a lot of black top but that’s mostly any ATV tire.
OVER ALL: they are a very good all around tire if you want to hit the mud they well get you throw and if you want to hit the trail they ride smooth.
LUGS: they are huge they say they are 2inchs online but I measured them and they where all most 3inchs.
TIRE TRUE SIZE: they are 28inch tires but they measure 27.5 with 5.5 psi in them.
I’m gonna upgrade the stock tires at some point but don’t want to spring for new wheels. The selection of tires is limited in the stock size so I was thinking about ITP Mudlite AT’s unless there is something better out there. I will be trail riding and working around my property with the quad so I don’t need a really wild mud tires. I got the mud riding out of my system when I was younger lol.
im going through my trx400 for summer and i found i have sand and pebbles inside my back tires. i dont get how they got in there without popping the bead off. never had a flat and the tires are stock. got it brand new last year. usually try and keep it around 5-6 psi. any ideas???
I am trying to mount some itp delta steel wheels on the front and I am having trouble. Apparently my bolt pattern is 4/130 on this machine. The wheels I got are 4/110. I found an adapter, but the lug nuts are too short to go through the adapter to be secured.
I went with the same setup (or so I thought) as goldjohn in this thread and I am trying to figure out where I am going wrong. I don’t see that itp offers the delta steel wheels in a 130mm bolt pattern.
Please check out this thread and see if you can figure out what he did to make it work. I would pm him, it shows he hasn’t been online in months.
