I’m caving in and getting a diesel, some questions…….

Hi all, I know, there’re other forums for this. But I trust the many individuals here with their different experiences and knowledge.

To start, my new TH is only 19′ and with the Rzr in it, weighs around 7500 lbs, so a 3/4 ton diesel is gonna be overkill.

I’m planning on trading in my ’06 Chevy half ton in on a ’16 duramax. I’m popping on the full ltz trim because this will be the wife’s driver, too. Being our tow rig AND her driver is actually going to save me money.

Assuming I DO get a duramax, what can I expect as far as driving it off the lot? Do these work well out of the box? Do they need anything? I’m not really interested in tuners and stuff like that. What can I expect as far maintenance? Will I still want to use a load distribution hitch?

I understand diesels are a different animal and require different attention from its owner……I just have to figure out what that is.

Thx for any tips (not looking for a debate on brands, btw)

Dually or no Dually

Hopefully this hasn’t been asked. Getting ready to sell my 2005 F-250 and buy a newer truck. I just bought a 28ft 5th wheel. I want a truck that will tow it very easy and that’s comfortable for long road trips. Not sure what manufacture yet ( Ford, Dodge, or Chevy) but I was thinking of getting a Dually. Any of you tow with a 5th with a Dually and without one? Just wondering if the Dually would tow the trailer much better. Money is not really an issue. Just want a truck that’s comfortable and tows really well.

2008 f-250 6.4

Im concidering purchasing a 2008 F-250 crewcab short bed 4×4 lariat with 82k miles from a friend for 25k. It has dpf and egr cooler deleated and was done at 55k. Truck also has bullydog programmer full mbrp exhaust system and firestone airbags with onboard compressor and studded heads leveling kit,20inch moto metal wheels and 35 toyo open country tires. This would be the first diesel truck ive owned. Would any of you concider 25k being a fair deal? Any issues with the 6.4 that i should know about? Things to look for? Any input greatly appreciated! Thanks!

HELP! Bad Gas In Toy Hauler

So I recently purchased a used toy hauler. It has roughly 20 gal of gas in the hauler. The guy couldnt remember what octane it is, or how old it is. I dont have anywhere i can dump it. I was thinking of just adding some marine sta-bil (http://www.goldeagle.com/product/sta-bil-360-marine) to the tank, and run it until it is almost empty. My thought process is to use the marine since it is designed for water environments. That way if there is any water seperation in the tank it could help with any issues. I would then fill it up with 91 octane from that point on. The trailer has a pumping station that also uses the same gas, so I cant fill the rzr till I know it has good gas in the tank. Do you think that is a good plan? Im open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Max 5th wheel trailer size for Silverado 2500 HD

I have 2015 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax/Allison. When I bought the truck I thought it was "more truck than I would ever need". Now I am looking at a 5th wheel toyhauler that weighs 13,500 lbs. Websites are telling me I should calculate 5th wheel tongue weight at 25% of the trailer weight which would be 3375 lbs. This exceeds the distributed tongue weight max by 1000 lbs. Also, with tongue weight, hitch, passengers, luggage, etc. I am over the 10,000 lbs GVWR for my truck. I see people pulling bigger trailers than the one I am looking at with the same truck. Is 25% too conservative?

Tow Vehicle Selection help!

Hey Everyone,

Well, the sad day has come, my reliable Ford F250 7.3 is dead. Hole in the block from coolant cavitation.

So, I am now in the market for a new used truck (Diesel, 2012 or newer). Want some advice but first some background. This truck is used primarily to tow my 12,500lb bumper pull toy hauler (with toys on board), while hauling a family of 5 almost adults. But with this being such a new truck I expect it will be used more often, possibly a daily driver. I also use it to 4×4 up to Transmitter sites and occasional snow driving. I do want an extended warranty, as long as I am making payments I want NO repair bills of any kind (thus warranty) and Longevity is KEY.

So, the million dollar question: Dodge or Ford. We loved our 7.3, it was great! We rented a 2015 Ram 3500 dually to make our dunes trip this year, it had a great motor and transmission, but really uncomfortable seats, and a transmission tunnel in the middle rear seat that made sitting there really bad. Do all dodges have that?

I know both ford and dodge are on a 6.7 platform, I am looking for real hard reasons on why each brand is better. I have heard all of the anecdotes about Ford vs Dodge, not interested in starting a brand war here.

None of these trucks would be deleted or tuned, don’t want that on the new truck (also live in California so smog…).

Have a bottom line max $$ of $40,000.
Thanks in advance!!
