You lucky Utah and western residents

My family and I are out visiting the western states this week. We started in Las Vegas and today we traveled to Zion Canyon and stopped at Bryce Canyon. We tour Bryce tomorrow and then head to the Grand Canyon. While I was driving I saw a lot of guys towing trailers full of ATVs and UTVs. This scenery out here is just so beautiful and I was jealous of those guys with ATVs because I was wishing I was out riding this country with them. You guys sure are lucky to live in such beautiful country that you can ride anytime. One day I might have to come out here just to do some riding.

First time to Taylor Park July 5-8, 2015

We left Louisiana with a large group of 10 RZRs (plus one Colorado rental), mostly taking this as a family vacation. Had a blast! Stayed at Three Rivers Resort because all of Taylor Park Cabins were booked…in December 2014!!! The following is a summary of our daily rides. The Funtreks book for Taylor Park was invaluable, to say the least. The new maps were very handy too. Clean and unclutter for quick reading at a glance.

Day 1 – 53 miles
Unload at Trading Post. Decided on starting with easy trails since we were all from Louisiana and had no relative concept to what a difficult trail is in Colorado.
First, Texas Lakes trail (755) all the way to end and back. East end is more fun because it is an ATV trail, west end more a road. Did not get to take loop at walking bridge because water was too deep.
Second, Pipeplant Mill trail loop starting at south end (742.8F) along 742. Forest section from the old town site was fun. Sign and Funtreks map says 50” wide. Very tight for wider machines but it can be done. Nice steep sections! Around to Red Mountain Road (742.3H).
Third, Lilly Pond trail (748 to 760) all the way and back. Fast, fun trail once you get to the climbing part along 760.

Day 2 – 63 miles
Unload at Trading Post
Trading Post to Tincup on road (765), to Tincup Pass (267), Mirror Lake water level was high but passable, to St. Elmo, to Hancock Pass (295, 299), to 888, to 839, to Cumberland Pass (765), to Tincup and back to Taylor Park (765). This was a great ride because of the spectacular scenery! Trails were fun. Long day.

Day 3 – 10 miles
High rain chance so short day.
Unload at parking area nearest to Taylor Pass trail start at 742 & 761. Rode taylor pass trail (761) all the way to Taylor Pass and back. This is a 4 low RZR trail all the way! Not fast but challenging and fun. Red trail means rocky and rough! Riding in the creek/trail is memorable. Only 10 miles today but took about 4 hours! Not sure if I would drive to that parking area again because the road is pretty rough in trucks and you can only do about 20 mph. Would have been more comfortable and faster in RZR but it’s 17 miles from Trading Post.

Day 4 – 77 miles
Unloaded at trading post.
Trading post to Slaughterhouse Gulch (55 to 752 to 764). Blue trail but not difficult at all. Very nice scenery along the trail in forest. Reminds me of old wester movies. Slaughterhouse Gultch to Cumberland Pass (765), south of Tincup, to town of Pitkin. Lunch in Pitkin, then to Alpine Station (839 to 888). Alpine station trail is green but you ride an old rail road bed along a steep cliff. The view is amazing! Nothing difficult unless you don’t like narrow ledges with a 2000 ft. drop! Alpine Station (888) back to Cumberland Pass (765), to Tincup, to Taylor Park. Another long day but fun.
