I am new to the forum but have been an active reader for several months. I recently bought a 2016 Highlifter 850 from a local dealership and have had quite the time since. It is currently at the dealership for repairs, with 4 hours on it. 40 miles and 3 mud holes (none of which were anything serious, and that’s what it’s built for, and I do not have a heavy thumb) in and it’s got a warped front axle and the rear cv joint is shredded because of the boot coming completely off the spindle. I was wondering if anyone else with this particular model has experienced these sort of issues or maybe I just got a bad run. The warped front axle I noticed when washing it the other day and when I called the service department at the dealership and asked what I should do, their response was if it’s not broken or making noise keep riding it. When I asked what could cause such a thing they said heavy impact or strapping it down to the trailer wrong. A. the axle nor the tye rod or either A-arm had a mark on it and B. I use the D ring on the front (their is someone out that at sometime has used the axle to tie their rig down, but not I:biglaugh:) Then as I was pulling it off the trailer the other day after a couple of hours of riding last night I noticed it felt like it was only pulling on one wheel, looked under it and whalla, the cv boot was completely off (not torn) on the bottom and the upon closer inspection the cv joint was mangled. Any ideas?
what is the reason why we have the limited steering radius? is it a clearance issue with the tire size or something to do with the 50% stronger front axles? What is actually stopping the handle bars currently? is it the stops at the steering column?
I would love it if I could increase the range some more.. unfortunately I did not know of this restriction in turning radius until I was driving the machine onto my trailer after I purchased it..
I still love the machine, but wouldn’t mind trying to get some more range in the steering.
I am also considering an aftermarket power steering system for it this winter as well.. with any luck I may be able to avoid the steering play I hated with my 1k sportsman, and the systems I found run around 750.00 for the total kit.

I took the big gun muffler off of my 850 before I traded it in didn’t really like how loud it was so built a turn down for it put it on my 1000 highlifter and really made it quieter then added the CommanderV and auto tune haven’t had time to run it yet but will let u know
