Hello Everyone, From a New Owner In The High Desert of SO CAL
I just picked up a new 15′ XP 4 1000 Monochrome on Saturday evening. I haven’t put any miles on it yet except on and off the trailer and into the garage so far, but that will change soon. I’m a small business owner and I have been into MX, Quads, Long travel Rhinos, and Harleys for a loooong time. This is my first Polaris and I hope its as good as I’ve read and heard from people I know. My Monochrome is stock for now, but that will very likely change in short-order.
Here’s to meeting some of you all out on the trails. :beer3:
PS
That’s my dog Bam-Bam in the Pix. I had to make sure he was OK with it before I purchased it.

I’ve only got 3 hours on this thing, but I LOVE it! I’ve been looking at them for several years, and have stopped by this site often through the years to view all your cool rides. I’ve got no mods so far other than a pair of Tusk hand grips on the upper roll cage, but #1 on the list is skid plates, and A-arm guards too maybe. I rode at Walker Valley, and it’s got lots of rocks, ruts, roots, and though I was going slow in low gear, I felt some scraping a couple times. After that it’s a KFI Stealth winch with synthetic rope (4500 lb overkill?), ATV Guru front bumper, and a roof, then perhaps an SLP clutch system, after that I’ll dig into the threads and get your opinions.
Question, I understand the transmission in concept, but it doesn’t seem like I should be doing 4800 rpm on a flat smooth dirt road doing a steady 25 mph, is that normal?
For those of you in Western Washington, I’d love to sync up with some other riders for a ride at Belfair andor Capital Forest, all my friends are on 2 wheels and does me no good if things get hairy or something breaks.
