Hey everyone! I am from Saskatoon Saskatchewan in Canada.. I am very new to the side by side world. i have been doing a lot of research over the last half year and the wife and i decided to take the plunge and get ourselves a new side by side.. we ended up with a 2015 Polaris rzr s 900 white lightning.. we wont get it for a few weeks yet being that its sitting at the dealership waiting for our accessories to come in but we cant wait!! we ended up getting all of the typical stuff for it like a plastic roof, half windshield, travel cover and we had to get a seat slide for the wife being that she is 5’5" and has a problem reaching the pedals at the moment.. i will post some pics at some point but right now its just going to look like everyone elses stock machine..
we went back and forth with the idea of buying used vs. new and we ended up getting such a good deal on a new one that it didnt make sense in my mind to buy a used machine.. plus around here it seems that everyone has a 2 year old machine with no hours and they are asking close to new prices or that the machine is well used and still the dollar amount doesnt equal the value of the machine.. so, buying a new machine was the decision..
we had an older polaris indy trail 2 up sled that the wife and I used to enjoy but it was at the point of needing some work so it was time to let it go.. we have always wanted to get back into a toy again and thought that we might get a little more use out of a side by side over a sled this time..
a little background about myself.. I have been a heavy equipment mechanic for the last 23 years now.. its good work and keeps me busy.. I have been into rebuilding older toyota landcruisers and trucks now for as long as I can remember.. i Currently have a 1977 fj45 that we wheel everywhere and have come down to the Rubicon trail a few times now.. we are hoping that the new rzr will fill the void for being able to tackle some of the smaller trails..
Another reason for buying the rzr is that the wife and i are both quite heavy into Geocaching.. its really the wifes hobby that i support but it gets us outside everyday and its fun.. there are thousands of caches on trails all over the world that we need a quad, sled or utv for and we are anxious to put the rzr to work..
as far as mods and stuff to the rzr….. not too sure yet.. i am sure that we will fall into the basic routine of what happens when you buy a side by side.. you start with the little stuff like a roof and windshield, feel that you want to make it more capable so you install a small lift and slightly bigger tires, and then whatever happens from that point.. I am not too sure we are going to go much bigger than what is already stock.. its most likely more of a machine than we already need but its something i figure we can grow into.. the one thing i dont want to end up spending money on is all of the tube stuff like bumpers and rock sliders and all of that.. I have a jd2 bender that i turned into a hydraulic bender a few years back and have done lots of tube work on my big trucks.. I am hoping to apply what i know to some of this smaller stuff.. I am looking to build myself maybe a cage extension off the back of the roll cage, a roof basket or some other extra storage rack and then front and rear bumpers and also some rock sliders..
I havent done too much research regarding tube size but i do keep a good selection of 1", 1.5", 1.75" and 2" tube in stock.. all in either .095 or .120 wall..
I guess other than the typical bolt on stuff that everyone puts onto their rzr I am also interested in putting in a heater and eventually power steering if it makes sense to do so.. I am looking at the Firestorm compact heaters but i cant seem to find a pic of one installed into a 2015 rzr s 900.. the heaters themselves look different for this machine than what appears to be the nicer looking heaters from all of the other models.. this model looks like it just has 4 big tubes facing the passenger compartment where as the other firestorm heaters have two vents facing the driver cab and then the controls are on the same side as these two vents. I will post a pic of the differences.. plus the price seems to be a bit more than the other models as well.. i will post up my questions to them shortly..
anyhow, this is more than a long enough intro but i will have questions over the next while.. especially once i actually have the machine at home… thanks for having a good forum.. i have done tons of looking around already over the last while but finally decided that it made sense to sign up tonight..
Hello everyone. As you can see from my title I am new to the side x side world. I have however owned dirt bikes and 4 wheelers all my life and currently still do, so I am not new to getting out on the trails and playing.
I decided to purchase a SxS though, since I now have two young daughters and it is hard to take the family out on dirt bikes.
We live in north central Tennessee and are always looking for places to go ride and other family’s as well to ride with. If anyone knows of any good places for SxS please advise. I am looking forward learning as much as I can about these things on this forum. I appreciate everyones help in advance on questions that will arise.
My name is Michael and my family and I are proud owners of a 2016 Polaris RZR 900 4. We live in El Paso and are fortunate enough to live on the outskirts of town where we can open our garage, take a few side streets and hit the desert trails all the way to Redsands and beyond! Glad to see there’s a dedicated forum for people like us. I have to be honest though I’m not very mechanically inclined when it comes to working on engines or doing mod work so I will gladly take all and any advice from you all. We are always up to meeting new riders so if your in the area hit us up. Would love to hear from you. God Bless!Attachment 168321
My name is Ben Elstad. I am a disabled veteran (C4-5 Inc. quadriplegic). I have been injured for 26 years. For the past few years I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a passenger in my brother’s 2008 RZR 800. Now I am looking to become a driver. I live in Lexington, South Carolina and have just purchased 15 acres to make some trails to ride on. I’ve seen several threads where people with injuries similar to mine are driving RZR’s with adaptive controls. I just recently purchased a 2016 RZR 900S. I intend to adapt this RZR so that I can drive it with no assistance. When I was first injured, I felt like life was over. I thought there was no possibility to do anything worthwhile. After having been injured for sometime I would like to help veterans with new injuries realize that that’s not the case. If you can relieve someone of that mindset early on I think you would greatly improve their quality of life. In the end, my grand plan is to have a fully adapted truck that pulls a fully adapted enclosed trailer with living quarters, carrying an adapted RZR. I would like to take this set up to the VA in Augusta, GA (spinal cord unit) to show other disabled veterans realistic possibilities for fun. I’m glad to be a part of this RZR family. I anticipate much fun ahead!

Hello, new member here from West Virginia. I just bought my first RZR a few weeks ago, and found this forum a couple of days ago. I decided to join this morning. I’m looking forward to reading through the threads and taking part in discussions.
I bought a 2013 RZR 570. It has the Polaris roof, Pro Armor metal doors, rock sliders, front and rear bumpers, speakers, LED light bar and 14" wheels and tires by MSA. I have installed front windshield, rear panel, parking brake, storage bags, under hood dry storage, and am waiting on a battery isolater Kit, winch, and rear rack.
After spending the last year+ looking at Craigslist monthly and visiting Chaparral every couple months, I think it’s time I take action! I’ve driven a 4-seat 800 RZR quite a few times in/around Pinnacles staging area, so I have a basic understanding of the area and the 800’s capabilities.
I’m debating between a new or used 900 4 seater. I will be using it primarily in the Lake Arrowhead area, with some day trips to other local spots. Going with 4 seats to accommodate my 10-year daughter and her friends (they enjoy off roading in my 2006 Rubicon). I’ve been reading the forums over the past year about new versus used, 900 versus 800/1000, and so on.
There’s a lot of used inventory in SoCal ranging from super mods to bone stock and everything in between. I was pretty set on a used 2011+ used XP 4 900, but am having second thoughts. It looks like the 2015+ 900s are a significant upgrade from the previous models. Plus, I’m rather meticulous with my toys, so I like the idea of raising the RZR from birth.
I’m open to any and all advice, opinions, and stuff you wish you new when you bought your first RZR. Also, riding suggestions for anyone familiar with the area are much appreciated.
The best wifey in the world just got me my first rzr xp 1000. I’ve had several quads in the past but never a side x side. So if you all can school me on the dos and don’ts of it that would be awesom. Also do these things come with a parking brake? Should i use hi or low gear when I’m riding? When should I use awd? We can talk about maintenance later when I get there it only has 2 miles. Oh and where do I go to buy accessories both for me and the rzr? Sorry for the newb questions and if it helps it’s a 2015 model. Thanks in advance guys I look forward to being part of this awesome community
Well I’m new to the side by side world I have always had a 4weller and this is my first txt I just purchased a new 2016 1000 rzr will be picking it up after the holidays
