Hawk Z1 in the sand today

Finally got to try out the new sand tires today. The sand was dry and like powder. Only made a few passes. Sounded like it needed a set of new plugs. I guess I should have put a new set in as they have been in a while. Made 40.15# boost. Had a few misfires. Looking at the log, fuel was spot on, so that wasn’t an issue.

Since no other UTVs were there to race, they paired me with the fastest drag bike there and beat me pretty good lol… Then watching, he beat the other guys by just as much. So, I didn’t feel too bad about it.

Will take off the sand tires and head down to the 1/8 mile drag strip next weekend to see what times we turn there.

Tuning my 1k Z1 for drag racing

I am going to play in the sand this weekend. So, I turned my Z1 up to 39#. Since I don’t have sand close by, I tune on the pavement since it won’t even come close to hooking up in the dirt.

Let me say that just like pictures never do a steep hill justice and videos never do the actual speed justice either lol. I left with the launch control set at 4600 and if feels like you are shot out of a cannon! The car actually skates to the left most of the pass until I let out.

I will get some video at the sand this weekend. I don’t know if there will be any other SxS there, but lots of fast 4-wheelers. So, it should be fun to see how my new Fullerton sand tires work.

Planning on running it at the 1/8 mile drag strip soon too.

Keep ya posted..

Hawk 1k Z1s to be at the SSSS

TMW will have a 1k 4 seater we installed the Z1 kit in to at the SSSS if anyone would like to see what our kit looks like. You will see the quality and detail we put in every one we do.

Also, Dasa Racing is suppose to have their 1k car at the show that they installed our kit on.

I will be flying out Friday and be there to represent our product and me so many of the people I speak to on the phone and on the forum. It will be nice to put a face with a name.

Can’t wait to see all the products. See you at the show.

1000 Voltage regulator move to help keep clean and cool

After all the problems seen on the 900 and 1000 with the voltage regulators, I have moved mine to the front of the machine. It is an easy install. It is placed behind the radiator. So, it is always getting air movement across it and will stays cleaner than by the rear tire. (Remember the 800 problems in 08?)

I was having problems with voltage dropping on my Z1 when running fans, lights, etc. So far, this has REALLY helped. I see my battery voltage holding much higher than it was before I moved the regulator. The big test will be Memorial Day weekend riding.

Here is a picture to show where I mounted it. As you can see, I welded a 1" piece of steel to the bar with the VIN number on it. You will need to extend the wires on the regulator OR make a 6′ pigtail so it is easy to replace if necessary. I made a 6′ pigtail with 10 ga. wire for the 3 yellow wires with a male and female plug to match the regulator AC wires. I have a winch, so I have already ran 8 ga. wire from the battery to terminal block on the firewall. So, I just connected the 2 leads for DC power there. VERY easy to change out if the regulator fails later.
