ATV weights

I am shopping for my first ATV.

One of the things I’ve been amazed at is the difference in reported weight for different ATVS.

Example:

2016 Yamaha Grizzly 700 SE – 692 wet (so around 665 dry?).

2016 Arctic Cat Alterra 700 (single cylinder 700 engine w power steering). Dry weight is 750 pounds!

Why are Yamaha ATVs so much lighter? I get the Can Ams will be heavier because they are twins.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Help!!!!!!

Ok I’ve got a problem. I own 2010 Yamaha grizz 450 and it won’t start. Getting gas, good spark and new plug. I’ve ran a tank of gas out from bottom of the carb. It did get ran w no anti-freeze. No temp lights came on(if there r any). It’s not blown cuz I have compression and it started once since only idled touched the gas and it died and hasn’t started since. Plz plz help I just feel it’s sumthing small. Thank you for ur input!!

Can Am Outlander or Yamaha Grizzly??? Here’s the hard truth for you…………

There has been a rash of postings on here of people asking should I buy a Can Am or Yamaha. This should help you make your decision. I myself face this same decision as my son has been hounding me with the question should he get a Can Am 800 or 1000 Outlander or a Grizzly. I did my research from all the Can Am forums reviewing reports from the thousands of Can Am owners as well as a good family friend who owns a Can Am dealer and his technicians and the 3 Gen 2 Outlanders that ride in our group and compiled the following for my son and for any of you out there asking the same question.

Think this is exaggerated? Think again it’s not. Can Am has a dirty reputation most people don’t know not to mention the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission and Can Am / BRP are getting to know each other very well right now on a number of things. Enjoy and buy smart after doing your homework.

Fuel Pump not Priming

14 grizzly 700 SE problems. Please, please help. Starter relay blew the fuel pump fuse, subsequent the display. Changed that, display is back. Fuel pump still will not prime. Changed the fuel pump RELAY, still nothing. From what I gather, the Relay is not getting the signal to close the circuit and provide power to the FP, as I can trick it with my tester to close and she fires up and runs until I pull my tester.

I cannot get the dash to go into DIAG mode, followed the instructions, held buttons for 30 sec. So I need help. I’m investigating the Lean Angle Sensor now….

200 mile service, factory torque

I just completed the 200 mile service on my 2014 Grizzly 550. The factory really likes to over torque the drain plugs and oil filter. The manual stresses not to over torque but they have them on so hard you think they will never come out without breaking something. By the way the valve clearance was fine and needed no adjustments. I was expecting this but decided to check it anyways. It appears the exhaust valves would be hard to adjust from lack of room to work in the area. The rear dif did have a slight amount of very small metallic particles in the fluid.

Shopping for ATV, Can Am vs. 2016 Grizzly

I am shopping for my first ATV. Seriously considering a 2016 Yamaha Grizzly SE and a new 2015/2016 Can Am 570 or 650.

Top end speed is not important to me. I’m looking for:

quality and reliability;
great handling; and
technical ability.

As far as price, the deals on the Can Ams may be a bit better, but they are pretty close. The Cam Am XTs do come with a winch and bumpers vs. the Grizzlys.

Been reading a lot online about the Can Am vs. Yamaha opinions. Curious what Grizzly owners here think about these choices. Thanks in advance.

Fuel Selector Knob

Trying to get to the carb so i can service it on a 02 660, was trying to get to the float to see if any junk was in it but i can’t get the fuel selector knob off. It appears the screw to remove it is stripped by the previous owner, anyone had this issue themselves? And if so how’d you get it off? Thanks for the help
