CVT drive belts and snatch blocks

New to ATVing here and just got a ’11 Grizz with the belt drive transmission and I’ve been suggested to take along an extra CVT belt along in remote rides just in case. I’m somewhat knowledgeable about where to get quality parts for cars but not so much for ATVs. Who makes the best CVT belt for my bike? Also, who makes just ok belts and who should I stay away from?

Also, I’m looking at getting a snatch block for a synthetic rope winch and wondered if the type rope determines what type of block you should get…or are all snatch blocks the same and I’m just thinking about this one too much?

Thanks

Fire retardant material?

I’ve seen the suggestion to either carry some kind of fire extinguisher or a fire retardant material on trail rides. I doubt I’ll be taking on the weight of even a small fire extinguisher, but I’d still like to have some way to put out a fire. What would be a good ‘fire extinguishing material’ I could bring along that would work say if a fire started in a hard to reach part of the motor that I could just maybe grab a hand full of and throw it on? I’m imagining it would be something granular like sawdust (but of course not sawdust).

Thanks

Winch talk

Just got my first ATV, a ’11 700 Grizz and planning on doing some trail riding soon. First piece of equipment I’m adding is a winch and I’m needing some suggestions for something that would be good for my kind of riding but comes at a decent price. Usually I try to get quality stuff (Warn) but since I’m needing to conserve denero right now I figure this winch is something that (at least for me) doesn’t have to be crazy great/expensive. Although I’d still like to get something that’s decent quality and can pull well, in my middle age I hardly think I’ll be voluntarily launching into any terrain that has the potential to get me too stuck…thus I doubt I’ll be using the winch that often.

Anybody have a suggestion for a model that’s decent quality for around say $300 bucks? Doesn’t have to be built to be used time after time but quality does still count.

Thanks

Tools and stuff for back country riding

New to ATVing and by the end of the summer I’ll probably be heading out into some remote mountain regions for some back country trail riding, and I’m wondering just what kind of stuff/tools etc I should bring along in case of breakdowns/events etc. Short list so far includes a GPS (probably a Garmin Montana 650T), a tire repair kit, and courtesy of my Mom one of those satellite personal locator beacons, probably the ResQLink+ from ACR.

Any other suggestions for stuff that might come in handy?

FSMs for ATVs?

Is there such a thing as a factory shop manual for ATVs? That’s the one I believe vehicle manufacturers publish for their dealership mechanics. Trying to find one for a ’11 700 Grizz. Or anything similar would be helpful.

Getting back in the game…

Following hand and shoulder surgery on the same arm in the past two years I think I’m FINALLY ready to start getting ready to ride again. It’s been two years!

Pulled the quad out of the garage, battery is shot, had a previous drain plug leak and needed to drain the gas and just give it a good look over. Noticed the registration is expired so had to go to DMV to take care of that.

Fixed the drain plug leak, changed the oil, pulled the transmission cover to make sure everything was good which it was but the bottom center bolt stripped on me, of course it was the very last one I had to tighten so had to take it all apart and get some loctite, did all of them since I had to take it all apart. Noticed a slight warp at the top of the case so I put some gasket sealer over that.
