WHAT’S NEW AT-A-GLANCE
For 2016, Can-Am aggressively revised its ATV and side-by-side vehicle lineup, by delivering more of what enthusiasts are asking for, including increased power. The performance increase includes three ATV engines and boosting performance of the flagship Maverick™ 1000R Turbo engine. Along with additional performance, new specialty vehicle packages join the family in 2016, giving Can-Am its most diverse lineup ever. From the affordable, mud-specific Outlander® L 570 X® mr ATV and new Maverick 1000R TURBO, to the all-new Maverick X rs 1000R TURBO and Mossy Oak† Hunting Edition vehicles, Can-Am has vastly expanded its off-road family. On top of that, by improving maintenance break-in procedures across the entire Outlander, Renegade® and side-by-side vehicle lineups, Can-Am has also given owners peace of mind they are getting class-leading performance and unmatched reliability.

NEW ENGINES & PERFORMANCE
Can-Am engineers, through persistent research and development progresses over the last two years, has enhanced 80% of the Rotax® ATV engine family to reinforce its performance leadership and maintain industry-leading power. Four engines get updated for 2016; the new 570, 850 and 1000R ATV mills and the revised 131-hp, Rotax 1000R Turbo.

48-HP Rotax 570
Found in the Outlander L and Outlander, the all-new liquid-cooled, eight-valve 570 Rotax, the only V-Twin engine in its class, supplies 48 horsepower to lead the 500-600cc segment. Larger pistons, longer stroke, a higher connecting rod created a +2-HP gain as well as increased low-end torque (+9%).

78-HP Rotax 850
The revised 78-HP liquid-cooled V-Twin Rotax 850 gained 7 hp for 2016, offering the most performance in its class. The new engine offers 9% more power and additional torque (+7%) and was derived from larger pistons and both a throttle body and engine head from the Can-Am Maverick side-by-side vehicle.

89-HP Rotax 1000R
A revised, liquid-cooled, 976cc, 89-hp Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine is the most powerful ATV engine in the Can-Am family and leads the big-bore market in performance. For 2016, the flagship Rotax 1000R has an additional 7 horsepower (9% power increase). Can-Am engineers added new pistons, a Can-Am Maverick side-by-side vehicle engine head and throttle body.

131-HP Rotax 1000R Turbo
The industry’s most powerful engine has undergone more significant change since its introduction in the Maverick X ds 1000R Turbo last year. The first factory-installed turbocharger has been revised for 2016 to increase its overall, class-leading performance to 131 horsepower and enhance its torque curves. Adding larger injectors, increasing boost pressure and recalibrating the CVT are some of the significant updates for the new year.

Can-am drivers sweep 12 hours of la tuque podium

Maverick Side-By-Side Vehicle Pilots Tally Numerous Victories

Valcourt, Québec, May 21, 2015 — Can-Am Maverick drivers finished 1-2-3 to sweep both the SxS Open class and the overall SxS podium at the 2015 12 Hours endurance of la Tuque Can-Am held this past weekend in the La Tuque, Quebec, Canada. Can-Am side-by-side racing pilots also scored podium victories in AWRCS and LOORRS to showcase the unrivaled performance of the Maverick 1000R side-by-side vehicle.

“Our racers had another great racing weekend behind the wheel of the Can-Am Maverick side-by-side vehicle, winning numerous races. We swept the Open class and overall podium and had four Maverick teams in the top five overall at the 12 Hours of la Tuque,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “No matter the type of racing, from endurance, to short track, to woods racing, these impressive finishes only reinforce the message that the Can-Am Maverick is THE performance side-by-side vehicle of choice when it comes to power, precision and agility.”

12 Hours of La Tuque
Can-Am Maverick side-by-side racers swept the SxS overall podium and won both the SxS Open (851cc-1000cc) and SxS Stock (851cc-1000cc) classes at the 2015 12 Hours of La Tuque. The top two finishers, Yani Desjardins and Martin Horik, are very familiar with the endurance race and one another, as they have each won the 851cc-1000cc class over the previous two years.

Desjardins, the 2013 overall winner, piloted his No. 5 Can-Am X-Team Maverick X rs 1000R side-by-side to the SxS Open class win. Desjardins impressed both days and overcame a time penalty by winning round one of the two-leg race. The round one victory and time adjustment forced Desjardins to start sixth off the line, instead of first, for session two. From there, he simply passed every rider to win by almost two full minutes. He completed 50 laps in a time of 2:03:37.724 to beat Horik this year.

Horik (OCTANE / Can-Am), last year’s overall winner, captured second place in the class and second overall. The veteran driver, who was the only other one to complete 50 laps, was in the running for the overall, but also fell victim to a time penalty and had to settle for a hard-fought second-place podium finish with his Can-Am Maverick 1000R. Diane Rossi (Rossi X-Team) finished one spot behind Horik in the Open class and was fifth overall.

Third overall and first in the Stock class went to racer Stephane Dupont of Equip Dupont Motorsport, who was competing in a new stock Can-Am Maverick X ds 1000R TURBO, the industry’s most powerful and lone factory-installed turbocharged side-by-side vehicle. The new team put together an impressive performance completing 49 laps (one lap down) in a time of 02:03:21 to earn a coveted spot on the SxS overall podium and first in its class.

AWRCS
Dave Plavi drove his No. 591 Offroad Motorsports / Wicked Bilt / Can-Am Maverick to a victory at round three of the American Woods Racing Championship Series held at Redbank in New Bethlehem, Pa. The wire-to-wire win on a dusty, rock-strewn course extended Plavi’s points lead after the second round of the series’ side-by-side racing action. Team Travalena / Can-Am driver Richard Travalena Jr. took second behind Plavi, giving Can-Am a 1-2 finish in the Open class ranks.

LOORRS
DragonFire Racing / Weller Racing / Can-Am pilot Ken Benson earned the Production 1000 class win in his new Can-Am Maverick X ds side-by-side vehicle at round six of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Regional Racing series double-round weekend held at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz.

Can-Am Maverick X ds Turbo takes Doug Siddens Back to Pikes Peak

April 20, 2015 – Austin, TX – Four-time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb racer, Doug Siddens, will make his fifth bid up the hill in 2016. Doug was the first driver to pilot a Side by Side machine in the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race. This attempt will find him piloting the all-new Can-Am Maverick X ds Turbo, the first factory turbocharged Side by Side to be offered in the UTV market.

Siddens has a long history with the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Back in 2010 he was the first person to pilot a UTV up the 156 turns that make up the race course. In subsequent years, he went from a moderately modified machine, to a heavily modified race car, picking up records and many accolades along the way. In his 2012 appearance, he managed to pick up the title of Fastest Qualifier in the Exhibition Powersport Class. That year he ended up running 9th overall, which is no small feat considering he was racing against the best drivers, and the best teams with considerable big-name backing from all over the world.

The next year, 2013, he stepped into the Unlimited Class with the likes of the Red Bull team and the team surrounding the record-breaking Peugot 208 T16 car. 2013 saw Siddens sitting in the penultimate iteration of his race car featuring a hand-lain carbon fiber body and a turbo-charged 300+ bhp powerplant. He was recognized, along with a handful of other drivers, as a Top Driver by the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Commission at the PPIHC Museum.

He will be back in action in 2016 on the hill with a new set of challenges ahead of him in an all-new machine. The Can-Am Maverick X ds Turbo will act as the starting point for this, his 5th attack on the hill. He has begun work on the stock machine from Can-Am to turn it into a vehicle capable of conquering not only the hill, but his pervious accomplishments on the face of the mountain. The new machine will be supported by his current sponsors, Can-Am, MCX-USA, Racer Tech, KC Truck & Performance, and HMF Exhausts.

Siddens will be chronicling his journey through the process of building, testing, and ultimately racing the Maverick X ds Turbo on Maverick Forums via a build thread, so be sure to follow the progress there.
