04 Quest Valve Adjustment

Can anybody give me any insight on how to do this? Since getting the bike, it had no power and backfired. I’ve went through the carb and it runs 10x stronger now, but still backfires some and cuts out some at wot when warm. Which leads me to think the valves are out of adjustment. The engine was rebuilt, and has about 10-20 hours on it now, which again leads me to valves.

I’ve checked the boots on both sides of the carb, both are intact and sealed well. I adjusted the air/fuel mixture because it was running lean, which I thought was going to fix the problem. It did help quite a bit, but the problem is still there. If I back out the screw anymore, it’s going to start running rich, it’s already borderline now.

Can anybody give me any tips on adjusting the valves?

2002 traxster bogs out at higher rpm

I have a 2002 500 traxster which I have had no problem with until now.It bogs out at higher rpm in mostly 4th gear but will also 3 gear some times. But I also noticed the speedo acting funny. When sitting still it reads 10 kms and hour and I rev it up in neautral the speedo goes up and down.First I thought it was a fuel problem.Removed the tank, lines and carb and cleaned everthing and still does it. Now that I think about it the bog and speedo problem started at the same time so I’m thinking eletrical problem now. Anyone with any help or simular problem much apprciated.

Traxter Max Front Drive Shaft Replacement

Hello,

This is my first time posting so I hope I’m in the right place.

I blew the front left drive shaft in my 2004 Traxter Max. I can pull the shaft completely off the outside (tire) end and can see the (large) spline. I called my local BRP dealer and I’m looking at over $600 for a new shaft. Ebay has the half shaft for under $300. I also saw a rebuild kit for around $60. I’m hoping to save money and do it myself but the service guy said you can’t rebuild the unit and need to buy new (I know he’s looking for a quick buck but I’m looking for the truth).

Does anyone have any experience with replacing the front drive shaft and/or service manuals/tips for removing and replacing the unit?

Several questions of J.D.Buck/Quest

I picked the Buck 650 up on Friday and finally put it to work for a bit this afternoon. Mounted the 15 gal. sprayer on the back and sprayed for this fall’s plots and hit a couple of fencerows to finish off the tank. Overall, I am happy with the machine, but I have a few questions-
1. When starting I sometimes have to rock the machine a bit, then the starter engages and it starts fine. All elec. connections seem tight and there is no corrosion…what do I look for next?
2. Still having issues with the shifter. I turned the idle down a bit and it helped but when I stopped going downhill today I had a struggle getting it into reverse. I do think that part of it is that the machine is new to me and I just don’t have the hang of it yet. I tried doing a search on the shifter issues and didn’t have any luck, but then I am not much good when it comes to using computers. Is there a site that I can download both the operators and service manuals? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I am sure all of these issues have been addressed here before and I am sorry to be a PITA. Thanks for your help thus far and thanks in advance for the help in the future! Mike

Traxter 500 power issue

I have a 2000 Bombardiar Traxter 500 and while I was riding on the trial it quit on me and had no electrical power. I checked the battery terminals and they were loose so I tightened them and was able to start it. I rode a little bid more and it did it again. I pulled the battery and checked the cells and the battery was completely dry. I put jumper cables from another ATV directly to the positive and negative cables on my ATV and it started right up. I got a new battery which has a charge to it and when I installed it I still have no electrical power. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can check to research the problem?

My “New” John Deere Buck

If all goes as planned I will pick up a 2006 Buck 650 on Friday morning. I am not sure as to what kind of deal I am getting yet as the farmer I am buying it from has had it for sale for a couple of months with no one showing any real interest. It only has 262 hour on it and looks like it just came off the show room floor. I am looking at less than $4000 I am sure.

I do have some questions as to if there is anything that I need to watch out for on a machine that has seen so little use? I figure an oil/filter change of course but was wondering if anything else requires immediate attention.

I do know that the original owner maintains his equipment meticulously so there should be know major issues. He used the Buck mostly at the county fairs as he has a Gator he uses on the farm. He told me that he just had to have one because it said John Deere on it.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks, Mike
