Marinette County, WI

Not sure where to put this, but I want to give a shout out to the DunGood Riders and Kevin Rocque in Goodman WI. Wife and I went riding up there for a few days last week. Kevin owns the 8-Hi just outside Goodman and is a sponsor of the DunGood Riders club. He and his family own a 3 bedroom house next door that they rent out for ATV and snowmobile riders. $75 a night for this great house is a good deal! House comes complete with the use of the garage, dishwasher, washer/dryer, complete kitchen and everything you need to work them. Towels, linens, soap and all. The only thing we took with us that we used was shampoo! Kevin is a good guy too, runs the 8-Hi club next door. Bar, restaurant, convenience store and gas station. He is a sponsor of the DunGood Riders and having stayed there, I can highly recommend this facility. The way I found it was on the DunGood Riders web site. Well worth the money and time!

Trails were in good shape, but dusty. A local told us they haven’t had rain for about a month so that’s not too surprising. Granted we were up there during the week, (Wed and Thurs) but had the the trails pretty much to ourselves and ran into groomers both days on the trails. We put on around 220 miles over the 2 days of riding, and had a blast! Some of the trails are fire roads, but there are some 1 track trails with obstacles to deal with too. I could see how there would be some mud and water to deal with if it hadn’t been so dry. Trails were well marked as were the forest roads so it was fairly simple to figure out where we were at with a map. The Dungood Riders do a great job of keeping up with the trails! The trails out of Pembine weren’t marked as well, but we were able to figure out where we were at easy enough. Trails there were in good shape too. Saw a groomer in that area too. We came of a particularly winding and more technical section, I had the wife leading so I would always know where she was. We stopped at an intersection and she commented first about how much fun that had been….Damn, I married the right woman all those years ago….Gotta love a girl who isn’t afraid to pee on the trail!

Since its about 300 miles from us, it isn’t a weekend trip, but we will go back next summer.

Creede Colorado/ Alpine Loop Pictures

Our family and a few friends stayed near Creede Colorado a couple of weeks ago and had a great trip. For anyone wanting to ride some of the Alpine Loop trails but wanting to avoid the hustle of Silverton and Lake City the area along the Silverthead scenic byway between Creede and Lake City is a great place. Plenty of riding for a week long trip. here’s just a few of the pictures, some of the best wild flowers I’ve seen and the most snow up high I’ve ever seen.

A list of some of the trails we rode.

Bristol Head Peak, Heart Lake, Wager Gulch, Cinnamon Pass, Stony Pass, Jarosa Mesa/Spring Creek Pass, Engineer Pass, Bachelor Loop and many others. We stayed at a small ranch that had direct access to the Fern Creek ATV trail and it was a great 50 inch trail, and if you love to fish this is a great area too.

good time breaking in new land and trails

Yesterday had 7 of us go down to our new 100acres to just beat down trails we previously busted and then had brush hogged, bust more trails we’ll be having to take chains saws to to open them up so nobody has to duck or get branch whipped…will do some opening up next week in critical areas but will probably wait for fall when leaves drop and cooler weather…aka no crazy ass swamp mosquitoes trying to drain you of your last drop of blood lol.

Geerig and I spent about 7hrs down there just beating up stuff, we had more riders come on down throughout the day to help. Honestly didnt do much picture taking but had a ton of pic worthy situations, but most you guys that ride off road know when your getting down and dirty that pics arent at forefront…need to just start using my gopro more often.

Anyhow, our river is waay down so we took advantage of the huge sandbars, hot day and splashing around. Few muck holes etc, all the men women and children had a blast, finished the day off with some gun fire and fireworks then a couple barely pops.

Found the one soft spot, the warn 2500 on the gray quad couldnt get it out so i pulled around front and used my rear 3000lb sw to pull him thru it…this turned into the challenge hole that stopped everybody. I made it thru twice with some speed but 3rd time i had it so wallowed out with ruts i got high centered and stuck bad, but front 3500 terra didnt even baulk, up and out we came.

I tested the limit of 2wd and once it dug in..4wd just dug down and got me stuck so Geerig had to save me

Kinda sad our river has turned into a creek, if a guy was snorkeled you coulda made it straight across no problem. Tons of kayakers and tubers passing by all day, one group paddeled over to sts with us and said theyve walked most of it. Funny part was up north had gotten some good rain friday, and this pic was at 10am….by 4pm about half the sandbar we were playing on was covered up by water.

Once we get some more headway on our new trail system ill get some vids of it all, but i will say last week we logged some time in the seats down there, took buddy and his boy down last wed, daughter and her friend last tuesday, family the other day…so nice having exclusive ground.
