I have been repairing this atv. I must admit I don’t know much about atvs. Part of the repairs was to clean the carb. It ran great for a while. I have come across an issue I don’t know what is wrong. When it’s idling the engine either surges or idles fine. When in gear the engine surges. It doesn’t move forward and it often quits. However, when put in reverse, the atv moves and engine sounds and runs great…in reverse. Can anyone help? Not sure what is wrong. I’m wondering if it has to do with the reverse override.

Hey guys (and gals), been watching the thread on and off for some time while searching for a used ATV to buy. Used a lot (and broke a lot) of Polaris 4 wheelers in Afghanistan and finally broke down and got one for my own. Ended up going with a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. Quick questions though, when I research the VIN it says HO EFI? Anyway, I am slowly ( new tricks and old dogs…) learning about the vehicle and how to properly maintain it. I started with changing all the fluids and clearing out the air filter box. Its more of a therapy thing for me to just tear stuff apart and learn how to put it back together. Hopefully, when I tear something apart and can’t put it back together – you all can set me straight lol. Anyway, Cheers all and looking forward to being a art of the forum.

I have been running Polaris Atvs for a while now. I never thought to look up for a forum untill just recently. Glad I found this site. Tons of info and people that love to ride the best machines made. I have been running since 2002. I am a father of 3 two tenagers and a 6 year old who also love to ride. Glad to be aboard and i will be spending time reading and following post.

I have a 2001 325 Magum 2×4 I need the torque specs for the head bolts, the nut that holds the lower crank gear on and the nut for the flywheel. This thing broke the timiing chain and bent the ex vavle so I also need to know the timing mark location for the cam gear, I have a pretty good idea but I need too fine out for sure.Any help is great.

just got a 400 sportsman said needed a carb cleaning well the was wrong found piston busted after removing jug found no pieces around the crank but the main question is there suppose to be oil in the crank area and read about a sump oil found a dipstick that unscrews but have no ideal what it is and being a 2 stroke is that why there is no oil in the crank area. needing to find out if worth fixing
