DXTrigger alternative throttle

Interesting. They are supposed to have one coming out for Yamaha. The Honda one shows to be 125 bucks from them. Not cheap, but I have occasional joint pain and notice it in my thumb during all day riding. This might make all day and multi day trips more comfortable for some. It does not replace the thumb throttle but instead gives you another "trigger" style throttle option. Kinda neat. Their site is DXTrigger

New machine for my daughter!!!!

Well, my daughter’s birthday is coming up early next month. She’ll be five. We hadn’t given much thought about what to get her. We’re sort of procrastinators…. lol. Anyway, my wife was pouring over the FB garage sale sites as usual. She sent me a screen shot of an ad she came across for a used pink ’16 Outlaw 50 and said something about how she wished Sis was ready for a machine. I thought about it and figured now is a good a time as any. My son was a little younger than my daughter when Santa got him his first machine. I messaged the guy back and forth a few times and found out this machine is part of the carnage of a relationship gone bad. He said it was still on the first tank of gas when things went south. He has no kids of his own, so he was motivated to sell and came down from $1,600 to $1,450. I called one of our local Polaris dealers and asked what their leftover 16 Outlaw 50’s are going for. They didn’t have any left but said $1,900 was what they had been going for. So I thought $1,450 was a very fair price (if not low) assuming the machine was what he said it was.

My wife and I had someone watch the kids and went to look at it. It’s like a brand new machine that has been sitting on the showroom floor awhile. Just a little dust on the motor and all the titties are still on the traveled surface area of the tires. This thing had barely been ridden and if he had told me it had never been ridden, I probably would have believed him. We bought it the next day and took it down to my in-laws place where it will stay until her birthday party.

This is gonna be rough on me….. I have to wait a WHOLE MONTH before we can give it to her!!!! I already can’t stand it!!!! Lord, help me………….

Robbers Cave in Wilburton, OK 10-01-16

We did a day trip out to Robbers Cave. This is a state park with newly cut ATV trails over about 250 acres. We had an awesome time but there was no Griz for me. I’m still on the sick (or recovering) list with my carpel tunnel surgery. So this ended up being a RZR kind of day for me. We also hauled my son’s sportsman out there thinking that he could at least ride around my inlaws lake place if not at Robbers Cave.

We headed out Friday evening to my inlaws lake place. We had a great time with family and friends around the a campfire and turned in about midnight. We were up a little after 8:00am, had breakfast and headed to the trails about 20 minutes away. Once unloaded, my son jumped in my in-laws Intimidator and my wife and I had my daughter with us in our rzr. There is one big trail that circles the 250ish acres and many trails you can duck off onto as you go. According to my father-in-law, we didn’t hit half the trails out there and we were there about 6 hours. The riding is rocky for the most part. The new skids on the rzr were put to the test and we were thankful we made those a priority for the rzr. We probably rode around for an hour or so before I asked my son if he wanted to give it a shot on his machine. My thinking was to take him on the big trail around the property as it is fairly smooth. He was all for it so we went back to the truck and got him geared up. We put him between my wife’s folks and us so we could watch him and get some video (forgot the damn camera, so it’s all from the iPhone). Well, he blew our minds with how well he did out there. He ended up going on several of the interior trails and got through there better than we did in the RZR at times.

All in all, it was a great day. I’m dying to take my Griz out there! For anyone close or who happens to be passing through with their Griz, I think you could spend a couple days out there and not get bored. I wish we could have stayed longer.

I put several vids of my son riding up on my channel. I won’t link them all as they are somewhat shaky and probably difficult to watch. The camera man had a bad hand, so that may have been part of the problem. lol

There’s several more vids there.

Wolf Pen Gap 2016

We’re back! We had a great time and got some decent riding in 9/15-18. We ended up with 2 1/2 days riding as it rained like crazy Sunday morning so we headed home early. For anyone thinking about a trip here, I have good news. I have posted before that the tree huggers have had their way and the interior trails are shut down part of the year. The remainder of the year, they will shut them down if it rains too much. Well, the head tree hugger who was in charge of shutting them down has retired. Nobody has really stepped up to fill the position so they don’t get closed much now.

All of our stuff ran great. The Grizz did die on me unexpectedly at a water crossing. I hit the crossing fairly hard and figured I sucked some steam into the intake. The water was nowhere near high enough to have entered the intake. After a couple restarts, it ran like a top again. Also, my left brake handle would go soft from time to time. I noticed it was usually after hitting a jump and getting a little air. The rzr did well also. I did notice (today) while taking my kids for a ride that the steering wheel is off a little. I’m thinking it has an alignment issue. I’ll get under there and check things over before I correct the alignment. I was supposed to ride with my wife on Sunday but unfortunately, it didn’t happen due to the weather. I guess the next day trip will be a rzr day for me.

I was hoping to get more riding in but we did get about 160 miles logged. I was hoping for about 250. I shot video pretty much the entire time we were out (2 and 3/4ish 64gig cards) and will get some posted up as soon as I can. I know that’s a lot of video to sort through but I did that on purpose as I’ll be off work for another 6 to 8 weeks after carpel tunnel surgery. I figured that would be a great opportunity to learn to edit video.

We also bought the Ozark Trail 72 qt cooler before we left. We gave it a workout on this trip. The jury is still out. They claim it holds ice for 9 days. Of course, we were in and out of it 30+ times a day and we had to add ice each day. I’m planning to test it full of ice in my warm garage and see if their claims are true. We’ll see.

Here’s some pics…

Leaving.

Acting as a counterweight for one of our friends. He was concerned about tipping.

Our crew this trip.

The wife.

Trail break!

Abandoned mine.

The wife and I with a little scenery.

The falls.

This post may be a work in progress…. Several of my pics were taken on the action cam. More to come.

YETI vs Ozark

So, I was at Wally World Sunday evening with the wife. We were looking for a new bike for my daughter. She was starting to look like one of those circus performers on ther little teeny tiny bike she learned to ride on.

I had heard Ozark Trail has a YETI knock off that was mega cheap. As we’re walking around, what do I spy? I though it was a YETI at first glance. On closer inspection, I saw it was the Ozark Trail knock off for $10!!!

I’m pretty sure we paid $40 for my wife’s 30oz YETI rambler back around Christmas. A quick look at eBay and the 30oz YETIs are going for around $20 right now…. So, I bought one. When I got home, I decided to do a little experiment. I filled both up with ice and set them on the counter. This was at 7:00PM on Sunday evening.

This was this about 2:00Pm today.

This was just a few minutes ago.

Obviously it’s looking like a tie. The YETI is probably leading just a little bit according to my wife and son. I’ll agree with that. But for the price, I’ll take the Ozark all day long and twice on Sunday.

To be continued…
