Hey everyone. A couple years back, I asked you all about going big. I.e. Buying a diesel and a 36′ monster 5th. But I just can’t justify it.
Here are the facts: I’m keeping my ’06 1/2 ton Chevy, looking hard at the eclipse (attitude/stellar/iconic) 19 footers and stuffing a 1000 XP4 in there (God willing). I DO already have a brake controller. I used to tow a 2300FS weekend warrior with 2-3 dirt bikes and filled water tank with this truck. It struggled a little bit on steep climbs, but that was it. Brakes, shifting, trans temp all were fine. I do understand 3 dirt bikes are probably half the weight of a 4 seater, but the 2300fs is substantially heavier than a 19 footer.
This will put me right below my towing limit, and yes, I understand the dangers of towing overloaded and what not. I do understand the dangers and limitations of the truck. Hence these questions:
1) I have 3.42 gears f&r. Should I change these?
2) should I forgo the onboard genny to save any weight and go with a portable?
3) I’m assuming rear airbags are a must here
Let me know what you all think on ways to improve this situation.
(Removing my gas cap and driving a diesel under it is not an option, btw[emoji41])
