What I am really looking for is some advice. Currently Have a 2002 F250 XLT with 7.3l and 217,000 miles. Also have a 2007 Eclipse Attitude Toy Hauler.
Truck is in the shop right now, fuel pressure regulator let go and took an injector with it, when they bench tested 1 came back bad and the other 7 are marginal. Second gear on the trans is slowly going, and the AC sometimes stops working. To fix all 8 injectors, ford factory rebuilt trans, new AC compressor/condenser, and a fan clutch is total of $9900. To fix JUST the one injector, labor in diagnosis and the fuel pressure regulator is $3300. Around this area sounds like we can get $10-12K on a trade for it with just $3300 to get it running/driving.
Other facts: we have turbo that has never been touched, mechanic says he can hear bearings rattle at high rpm, thinks we have year. HP oil pump was new 2007-so probably wont last forever. Water pump wont last forever. other items of wear…??? Front axle has vacuum leak, we have to put 4×4 in manually. Old transfer case, old axles.
Alternatively, we can get a low mile 2013-2014 6.7 F250 XLT for $40,000-ish. This would be a truck with 40,000 or less miles.
Would a new truck be a better tower? We are towing 13,000 in trailer, truck and trailer on cat scales is 20,000 lbs on the dot. Afraid we are killing the 7.3L.
What would you do? Spend $10k and fix the truck and drive it till it drops? Cut our losses and go with a new one? Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
