Been a while since I was here!
I have a neighbor with a 330 Magnum that his grandkids were riding a few weeks ago and ran it out of gas. They put in some gas that may be questionable, since it started running crappy right after that. He asked me to check it out for him. I normally work on farm equipment, but have done some of my own repairs (just had the starter off my Explorer 400)
I got it in my shop and drained the gas tank and carburetor and checked the gas filter. The gas didn’t look real bad, but didn’t smell right. Kind of stale. I put in 2 gallons of new gas and it started right up. I drove it a bit and it wouldn’t pull over half throttle without the air filter, but it did fine with it in. (normal?) I drove it back to his house, 3 miles and it seemed to run great.
This afternoon they took it for a ride again and it died about 1/4 mile from his house. I got there and someone had the gas on reserve for some reason. I put it to on and choked the heck out of it and it started. Drove it to his house and seemed ok. Later on he called and said it is sputtering and died on him. ‘
Is the fuel pump maybe an issue? I would think it would either work or not. Not intermittent like this. Or a carb issue?
Thanks for any input!
