2 new machines

hello from Chicagoland.
over the winter I picked up 2 machines, an 01 Scrambler and an 07 Sportsman 500HO.

I’ve had yamaha racers in the past, so I’m not used to the CVT setup and could use some pointers.

On the Scrambler, I have to rev up a bit to get it to take off. If you punch the throttle at a dead stop it will rev up, engage hard and flip right over. if you slowly rev it will slowly start to engage.
I’ve changed the belt with no change in performance. (the one I pulled out looks brand new too). I raised the idle and that seemed to help a lot.. but going on sound only it sounds too high to me. Advice?

On the Sportsman, we noticed last week that it no longer hits 57mph.. it’s hitting about 45. I used that machine to plow a lot over the winter.. I haven’t checked the belt yet, but is it possible I smoked the belt and why I lost the top end? The machine has 1600 miles on it, and I’m reading about guys getting 4000 miles out of belts…

Also, this machine doesn’t like to go into low gear unless I let it idle all the way down, hold the brake, and jiggle the shifter in low. if I don’t, half the time it just grinds. Loudly.

thanks
