Fuel Tank Storage

How do you all store spare steel fuel tanks that are not currently on machines? This Could be those tanks in storage for future builds, backups, to sell in the future, etc.

Some methods I have read about
-WD-40 fog
-Fill full of fuel
-Fill full of oil

Any best method or one that you have had long term luck with? I currently have a trx70 fogged with wd40, I iust don’t know how long that will prevent rust for. I also have a tank off my 300 I need to do something with.

I am not so worried about surface rust as it is easy to remove so is it best to just store them dry, maybe with some desiccant packs inside?

While all the plastic is off……

2 months ago I bought a 2012 Polaris 850 Sports. Tour. HO – 3800 miles

I have all of the plastic off right now and replacing some parts, cleaning, etc. and curious if anyone wants to recommend I do some things while everything is easier to get to with the plastic off.

Here’s what maintenance I’ve done so far:
– changing the fluids in the engine (& filter), tranny, front/rear gear boxes.
– new spark plugs.

Here’s what I’m ordering parts for to repair while plastic is off:
– gonna replace the drive belt (be good to have spare anyway).
– gonna replace bent handlebars and maybe raise 1 inch.
– gonna grease all zerks (19?).
– gonna replace small broken foot brackets, etc.
– gonna replace speedo cable (throwing a throttle code right now and kind of
a last resort trying to get code to clear. tried about everything else).
– gonna replace all 4 u-joints (2- front drive shaft, 2-rear drive shaft) as
there is some very minor play in them right now.
– gonna order a few extra bolts, nuts, springs, plastic rivets, etc.

Also, a friend of mine (who 4-wheels vehicles a lot) says to liberally coat anything on the underside with WD-40 as it helps dirt and grease to clean off easier plus it allows for easier wrenching when turning bolts, etc.

Everyone/Anyone, please feel free to weigh in on any ideas as now is the time to perform the maintenance.

Thanks for the input folks :thanks:

replacing a Rincon

My 2007 Rincon works good but is showing some normal wear and I am thinking of a new one, how ever, I would like power steering and they don’t have it, I like the Rincon because of the ride, has anyone gone from a Rubicon to a Rincon or the other way around, how does the ride of a Rubicon compare to a Rincon, a short jaunt at the dealer doesn’t really give a good indication of how good it would be over a long trip
tks

05 kodiak 450

I just purchased a used Kodiak 450 and noticed it sits lower on the right side. I replaced the right front shock with a good used one because it was leaking fluid. I have checked everything and can not find any problems. The right front tire is leaning out at he top. Any ideas what to look for?

2010 500 H.O. sputter

I noticed under load or hard acceleration the bike would sputter or cut out. It has 1900 miles with 30" mud tires. It runs perfect otherwise throughout the rpm range and at all speeds. Changed coil, plug and wire. Running pure gasoline. I flipped the display over to the tach and put it on a hill to diag and it seems to cut out at 3600-3800 rpm every time under load. Am I looking at clutch/belt problem or should I be looking in the carb? This is the first and only auto trans I’ve ever owned.

2001 Honda 4×4 Rancher 350FM (front differential question)

I have a 2001 4×4 Rancher 350 FM with a manual shift and my front differential is trash (from the previous owner all kinds of bad bearing noise, will not hold oil so I packed in red tac grease in it and it works BUT not the way it should be)
Will a 2002 4×4 Rancher 350 ES front differential fit, (my local Honda dealer says YES) I have one located and it’s in great shape. I’m also going to replace both of the CV’s to the new knuckles with new bearings also and new tie rods. I don’t want to ruin all the new stuff I’ve done to the front end and not do it right.

Thanks

2003 polaris trailboss 330 seat

I recently had my 2 dogs chew up my seat for my 2003 polaris trailboss 330. They demolished the foam padding and worse they destroyed the seat pan, nothing was salvageable. Where can I find either the whole seat assembly or the seat pan at a reasonable price? Also, what years fit my ’03 polaris trailboss 330? Thanks for the help
